Dedza Dynamos players in road accident

Five Dedza Dynamos players have been referred to Kamuzu Central Hospital for further medical examination after being involved in a road accident Friday.

The rest of players were treated as outpatients at Dedza District Hospital following the accident, which happened on their way to their training base at Malawi College of Forestry (Macof) Friday.

According to Dedza Police Station Assistant Public Relations Officer Beatrice Jefita, 11 players and three officials sustained minor injuries.

Jefita said the players fell from the vehicle they were travelling in.

She said the accident happened after a 3 tonner lorry, which Wilfred Gama was driving from direction of Dedza heading towards Lilongwe with 23 passengers on board, collided with Ford Ranger driven by Feston Chakani coming from the opposite direction.

Jefita said upon arrival at Kalinyeke after the Toll Gate, Chakani accidentally left his lane and collided with the 3 tonner lorry, which Dedza players were travelling in.

“Due to the impact, the passengers from the lorry fell and sustained minor injuries,’’ Jefita said.

Following the accident, the match between Dynamos and Sable Farming slated for today at Balaka Stadium, has been shifted to a later date.

Dynamos General Secretary Mabvuto Mgode described the accident as a setback.

“The players are still being assessed,” Mgode said.

Dedza have made a good start to their life in the TNM Super League. They are on position 10 with 12 points from 10 matches.
