Former TNM Super League side Dedza Young Soccer has expressed desire to return to the elite league after over four years in the wilderness.

The team was relegated from the league in the 2015-16 season after becoming the first team from the district to compete at top level.

Young Soccer Technical Director Hassan ‘Awemba’ Phiri said they hope to utilise the new Chipiku Central Region Football League Premier League format to earn promotion to the top flight league.

“We will be using our home ground for the first phase of the games and we believe this will increase our chances of advancing to the next round. We have prepared well for commencement of the league and we have played several friendly games.

“The games have helped us to work on the shape of the team after players stayed for a long time without playing because of the Covid break. We are now ready to start the battle for promotion to the Super League,” Phiri said.

Young Soccer are in Zone D of the league alongside Dedza Dynamos, Kawinga FC and Ntcheu Strikers.

The four teams will but their matches at Dedza Stadium which used to host Young Soccer’s games during their time in the Super League.

Phiri therefore called on all football lovers in Dedza to rally behind their team as it fights for promotion.

A football follower based in the district, Aubrey Mwalemba, said: “I expect one of our teams to earn promotion to the Super League. Both Dedza Young Soccer and Dedza Dynamos have good squads and if they utilise the home ground advantage, one of them will surely make it all the way. We are hungry for the return of Super League games at Dedza Stadium.”

The 2020-21 Chipiku Premier League season is expected to kick off this weekend with participating teams being split into zones.

Zone A teams are Silver Strikers Reserves, Luanar FC, Chitedze Strikers and Mitundu Strikers and they will be using Silver Stadium for their matches.

Civo Stadium will host Zone B matches which will involve Ekas Wanderers, Green rangers Kamuzu Barracks Youth and Mtsiriza United.

Extreme FC, Simbi FC, St Gabriel Medicals and Mchinji Boma Stars will clash in Zone C action at Mchinji Community Ground while Zone E will see Wimbe United, Ascent Academy, Dwangwa United and Kasungu Police locking horns at Kasungu Stadium.

The last group in the new format is Zone F which has Airborne Rangers, Support Battalion, Mbavi United and Ngolowindo FC whose matches are scheduled for Salima Community Centre Ground.
