Moyale Barracks lost 1-0 to Dedza Young Soccer Stars in a TNM Super League second round match to dampen the hosts’ goalkeeper, Juma Chikwenga’s Player-of-the- Month award on Sunday at Mzuzu Stadium.
After Super League of Malawi (Sulom) treasurer, Tiya Somba-Banda, presented Chikwenga the award for being outstanding last month, he went on to concede through Ferguson Msonde’s 30th minute strike.
Chikwenga won the award after twice being voted man-of-the-match in the league.
“I am grateful to TNM for the award. It will inspire me forever,” Chikwenga said after receiving a K30, 000 cheque, a miniature trophy, a mobile phone handset, TNM branded cap and a T-shirt.
The result pulled Dedza out of the relegation zone as they lie 11th on 18 points.
Moyale, who are 10th on the log with 20 points, could have equalised after they were awarded a penalty, but Crispin Fukizi was guilty of shooting over the bar.
