South African domestic appliances manufacturer and distributor, Defy, on Tuesday opened a new outlet in Blantyre as part of plans to expand its footprint in the country.

This comes just barely 12 months after the company opened another outlet in Lilongwe and Defy Regional Manager responsible for Southern Africa Christo Hitge said the company plans to grow its turnover to R50 million over the next two years.

“We want to serve our customers with durable and original equipment with a 12 months guarantee and we intend to have more outlets to ensure that we serve the local populous effectively,” Hitge said.

He further said Defy plans to penetrate the local market in an attempt to eliminate the counterfeit domestic roducts which have flooded the market.

“We already supply Game stores directly from South Africa and we are very successful and efficient,” said Hitge.

Defy is the largest manufacturer and distributor of major domestic appliances in Southern Africa.

The company, among other things, manufactures and develops a range of large appliances from gas stoves, refrigerators, washing machines, and tumble dryers

Hitge then said the Malawi market has vast potential for business growth and with the planned penetration it would be easy to effectively serve the customers.

“The potential is there, if we come and implement what we have set as customer service and ensure that the consumer is always satisfied, we would surely ensure that there is a stable market,” he said.
