Deloitte supports Poly symposium

Accounting and Auditing firm Deloitte has donated K2 million to the Polytechnic Faculty of Commerce towards organising a 2020 symposium where students will interact with the industry.

The symposium is aimed at providing an insight to the students into the regular, internal workings of a company but also an opportunity for companies to identify talent to tap into their various organisations.

Deloitte Partner, Christopher Kapenda, said his company has relied on The Polytechnic for many years where 80 percent of their employees come from the college.

“Deloitte exist to make an impact that matters and to make that impact we need the right talent and the right people. I am glad to say we have not been disappointed by the college. The symposium is very important in that the students get to show the industry the knowledge they have acquired and we make recruitment decisions from the same hence our support towards the initiative,” Kapenda said.

The Polytechnic’s Head of Business Administration Department, Kizito Kanyoma, thanked the company for continued support towards such initiatives. “You are aware that the Malawi Polytechnic will soon be becoming The Malawi University of Business and Applied Sciences so at this critical moment we are hopeful that we will move forward with Deloitte. The symposium is an opportunity for our students to sell themselves to the industry and connect with potential employers which we do regularly,” Kanyoma said.

He further indicated that the symposium was expected to be held later this month but has been shifted to March 13, due to the recent unprecedented closure of the college.

The symposium will be held under the theme; Financial Market: a tool for socio-economic transformation.
