Human Rights Defenders Coaliton (HRDC) held its first series of planned rallies in Lilongwe’s Msundwe to update people on the next round of anti-Jane Ansah demonstrations scheduled for December 10 2019.

HRDC Chairperson, Timothy Mtambo, told the gathering that they would continue pushing for Ansah’s resignation as Malawi Electoral Commission Chairperson for allegedly mismanaging May 21 tripartite election results.

“We would like to thank you for the unwavering support you have given us over the past months,” Mambo said.

On another note, he said HRDC would exert pressure on the Ministry of Lands to ensure that the careless sale of land in the country should end.

HRDC officials are this morning slated to visit Livimbo School where school land was allegedly sold to private investors.

Taking his turn, HRDC Vice-Chairperson, Gift Trapence, spoke against the conduct of some police officers who are suspected to have raped women in Msundwe and Mpingu last month.

HRDC has since said it will hold meetings in Mzuzu, Rumphi, Kasungu, Lilongwe’s Masintha Ground, Blantyre, Mangochi and Chikwawa, among other areas.
