Derby mind games

Be Forward Wanderers have vowed to unleash their two new Nigerian imports on their bitter rivals, Nyasa Big Bullets, when the giants meet in the TNM Super League on Saturday.

The Nomads signed free agents, Adekola Ayinla and Ebuka Fabian Ozochukwu, from the West African country, benefitting from their links with former Super Eagles captain, Austin ‘Jay Jay’ Okocha.

Wanderers Vice-Chairperson, Gift Mkandawire, said the two players have heightened the level of competition at the Lali Lubani Road.

“They have been training with us for a week now and we are impressed with their work rate. We will definitely feature them against Bullets this weekend. We would like people to appreciate the difference such international players bring into a team,” Mkandawire explained.

He said his team has played second fiddle to Bullets for too long and will throw everything into the game.

Wanderers Assistant Coach, Elia Kananji, said he was also impressed with the Nigerians.

“From what we have seen so far, Adekola and Ebuka are great players. They are likely to make a big difference for us should they maintain what we are seeing in training,” Kananji said.

Bullets’ Team Manager, Rahim Ishmael, said his camp was not losing sleep over lining up against the Nigerians.

“Let Wanderers come up with their best squad. They are free to feature the Nigerians. They are their players afterall. But what we know is that they are not from another planet. They are just as human as our players are,” Ishmael said.

He said his team will go into the Blantyre derby with the players that featured in a 5-4 win over Premier Bet Wizards on post-match penalties in the Fisd Challenge Cup last Saturday.

Bullets do not have any foreigners in their team whereas the Nomads also have Japanese, Genki Nakamura, and another Nigerian, Amos Bello. Striker Bello has scored once for Wanderers whereas Nakamura is struggling for first-team football.
