Diamonds shine

Imperious Kukoma Diamonds easily tore apart Tigresses 65-23 in a Rainbow Paints Blantyre and Districts Netball League match played at Blantyre Youth Centre on Sunday.

After the victory, revered Diamonds Coach, Griffin Saenda, said he was back to spearhead his team’s revival after a disappointing season in 2017 when they surrendered two national titles.

“I am back and feeling much better. I want to help my team defend the league title for the third successive time and reclaim the two national trophies which we lost last season when I was bedridden,” Saenda said.

Tigresses Coach, Peace Chawinga-Kaluwa, blamed the defeat on lack of preparations and absence of key shooter, Sindie Simtowe- Msowoya, who is serving a five-game ban following her brawl with equally suspended Thunder Queens’ Captain, Joanna Kachilika.

“We created several chances but we didn’t convert them because we missed the services of Sindie in such a high-profile game. I am glad with our performance because we trained for only two days due to lack of funding,” she said.

In other results, Machinjiri Sisters lost 31-51 to Chilomoni Sisters whereas Thunder Queens pummelled Gerald Tasaukadala Sisters 85-14 as Shizaella Queens suffered 36-51 defeat to Serenity Stars.
