Renowned actors Dipo Katimba and Brenda Mselu have been in the theatre limelight in United States of America (USA).
The two have graced the theatre scene at the prestigious Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University (Virginia Tech).
Their performance is a part of the intriguing play titled Bits and Pieces, enchanting audiences at Theatre 101 in Blacksburg, Virginia.
The play’s uniqueness, according to information from Virginia Tech, evolves around the actors’ collaboration. The play also features talented students from the university.
Misheck Mzumara is director of the theatrical expedition.
Mzumara, a versatile artist, is simultaneously pursuing a Master of Fine Arts Degree in Theatre: Directing and Public Dialogue at the university.
Also drama lecturer at the Mzuzu University, Mzumara’s directorial prowess is steering Bits and Pieces towards acclaim and recognition in the world of experimental theatre.
Mzumara said Wednesday that Bits and Pieces is a groundbreaking experimental play that offers audiences a journey through the diverse realms of heaven, human relationships, and rich African traditions.
“It seamlessly weaves together three distinct yet interconnected stories, drawing inspiration from African myths, Henrik Ibsen’s classic A Doll’s House, and the timeless Julius Caesar by William Shakespeare,” Mzumara, who has starred in a number of productions, said.
“He said the play’s innovative narrative and the exceptional talent of Katimba and Mselu have earned it accolades and a growing fan base. The duo’s on-stage chemistry and their ability to bring complex characters to life have been a highlight of the production,” he said.
Mzumara said Bits and Pieces is not confined to the stage of Virginia Tech only.
He said they will embark on a tour to audiences in Seattle and Indiana, with a stop at South Bend.
“It has thought-provoking themes and the powerful performances are sure to leave an indelible mark on theatre enthusiasts in the United States,” he said.
As the curtains rise night after night at Theatre 101 in Blacksburg, Virginia, Dipo, Mselu, and fellow cast members from USA, under the guidance of Mzumara, continue to transport audiences into a world of intrigue and emotion.
The play Bits and Pieces is testament to the transcendent power of theatre, bridging cultures and bringing stories to life in a truly remarkable way.
Dipo and Mselu are also part of the team that directed a Chaz Munthali film titled Misnomer, which has so far had screenings in Malawi and United States of America.
