Dixies Kambauwa no more
Former Press Group of Companies Chief Executive Officer Dixies Kambauwa died at Mwaiwathu Hospital in Blantyre yesterday morning.
Information gathered from the family and Kasungu Welfare Association (KAWA) where the late Kambauwa was a member indicates that his body will today be taken from College of Medicine mortuary to St Michael and All Angels CCAP Church for a memorial service at 9am. The body will then be taken to Chiphere Village, Traditional Authority Kapelula in Kasungu District for burial which will take place tomorrow.
According to KAWA Publicity Secretary Deus Kamwendo, Kambauwa succumbed to pneumonia at the age of 68.
“While the family is mourning, the association of people from Kasungu living in Blantyre too equally feels a huge gap at his passing. He was always available and kind to everyone. It is very difficult to find his replacement,” he said.
Kambauwa worked for Press Corporation Limited for over 34 years having joined the company in 1973 where, for 28 years, he was a member of the executive management team before retiring in 2007.
He held a Bachelor of Laws and Master of Business Administration degrees from University of Malawi and Strathclyde Graduate School of Business, respectively.
He was also a member of the Chartered Management Institute of the United Kingdom and Institute of Directors in Malawi (IOD) and was appointed IOD Malawi Executive Director in May 2010 among other positions he held.
He also served in boards of various parastatals and companies, including the Reserve Bank of Malawi and Blantyre Newspapers Limited.
He is survived by a wife and a daughter.
