Donbell Mandala wins Optichem golf

Renowned golfer Donbell Mandala underlined his class when he won the Optichem golf tournament at Mulanje Sports Club on Sunday.

Mandala, with a handicap of 16, beat a field of 50 golfers when he scored 44 points to emerge champion.

It marked a successful weekend for Mandala who finished on third position during the National Bank Golf Championship held at Blantyre Sports Club on Saturday.

“The tournament was tough, but I was focused. My playing partners were great and we had fun on the course. I also thank Optichem for supporting the tournament,” he said.

Justice John Katsala finished second with 43 points, whereas Fanneck Gama was counted out to finish third.

In ladies’ category, Connie Muguvu was the winner with 33 points, whereas Teri Amaro finished as the runner-up with 30 points.

Optichem general manager, Bobby Singh, said they were delighted to sponsor the tournament at the Mulanje club for the first time.

“As Optichem, we are in the forefront providing value-added performance chemicals to leading growth industries around the world,” he said.

“We develop and manufacture fine performance chemicals for the coatings, construction, carpet, chemical, composites and various other industries. Our products help manufacturers and formulators address the changing needs of the global market.”

Singh hinted on sponsoring another golf tournament at the same venue next year.
