Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) has accused opposition parties of fanning violence despite referring electoral issues to the courts.

DPP publicity secretary, Nichols Dausi, Tuesday said the conduct undermines the pursuit of justice.

He said this at a press briefing, where he told journalists that the country was not in a crisis despite thousands of Malawians thronging the streets to express displeasure at the management of the May 21 Tripartite Elections.

“We would like to assure development partners, the business community and private sector that government will ensure that the country remains peaceful, that business is not disrupted as we deal with outstanding issues from the electoral process.

“We are of the view that the rule of law has to be upheld. Intimidation tactics that have been deployed to hound and demonise Malawi Electoral Commission officials alarm us and we condemn such conduct,” Dausi said.

Meanwhile, civil society organisations have announced that they are planning another round of demonstrations in July 2019.
