DPP vows to penetrate opposition territory
Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) has said it plans to strengthen its structures in districts and constituencies that are deemed to be opposition strongholds ahead of next year’s tripartite elections.
The party’s vice president for Central Region, Hetherwick Ntaba, said during a rally held at Pondaganda Primary School in Nkhotakata that his party is ready to take over the opposition strongholds.
He called on party followers in Nkhotakota central to elect proper structures at all levels for the party to win the constituency, which is currently under Malawi
Congress Party (MCP) Member of Parliament Peter Mazizi.
“We won during the 2014 tripartite elections while in opposition. Let’s maintain that by loving the party and supporting the president,” Ntaba said.
Speaking at the same rally, DPP Secretary General Greselder Jeffrey said the constituency is least developed because it has an opposition MP and called for unity and peace among party followers to win the constituency during next year’s elections.
She said it is only when they are united that they can win the constituency. She then blamed the opposition for failing to develop the constituency.
“It’s not good to cling to something that does not help you, try DPP because it’s the only party that can ease the problems facing this constituency,” she said.
Jeffrey downplayed the loss in the last by-elections saying the party is now strong and ready for next year’s polls.
Apart from Ntaba and Jeffrey, Minister of Justice Samuel Tembenu and Regional Governor Dean Josaya were among other top DPP officials who attended the rally.
