Dwangwa United, Chilumba Barrack 10 points clear
Dwangwa United and Chilumba Barracks are on track to earn their TNM Super League status after opening a 10-point gap in their respective regional league premier divisions.
In the Central Region Football Association (CRFA) Chipiku League, despite a 1-0 loss to Mchinji Stars over the weekend, Dwangwa have 57 points, 10 ahead of second-placed Support Battalion, who have a game in hand. Nsundwe United are third with 46 points from 26 games.
In the Northern Region, Chilumba lead with 59 points from 22 games followed by Karonga United on 49 points, who have played two games less.
Rumphi Medicals are third on 45 points from 23 games. Dwangwa coach, Ladwell Mbetewa, yesterday said they are cautious as the season is going towards the end.
“We know the battle is not yet over as Support and Nsundwe are also chasing the same top spot, but we are working hard to jealously protect the position. We need to avoid any slip up to increase our chances of earning promotion to the Super League,” Mbetewa said.
Dwangwa last played in the Super League during the 2008/09 season under the tutelage of Llyod Nkhwanzi, now Bullets’ co-coach.
Meanwhile, Clement Trotter of Nsundwe leads the Golden Boot race with 25 goals followed by Panji Bota with 19 and Jack Chiona on 17 from Support and Dwangwa respectively.
