Azam Tigers may be out of contention for the TNM Super League title but their sponsor, Bakhresa Malawi Limited, wants them to finish in the top six.
To drive the point home, Bakhresa has provided a K2 million package to inspire the team to win the last two matches.
The package offers each player K150,000 for a win and K75,000 for a draw.
However, Tigers officials stated that it will be difficult to implement the proposal because of the club’s debts.
Kau-Kau are eighth on the table with 39 points from 28 games.
Bakhresa Malawi Limited Sales Manager, Elias Nyirongo, said the extra K2 million funding is not part of the K6 million annual sponsorship which the team gets.
“We have decided to motivate the team so that they should win their remaining games. We hope things will work out,” he said.
Tigers Chairperson, Sydney Chikoti, described the incentive as timely, saying it will help the team resolve its financial problems.
“This has come at the right time and it will motivate the players to keep fighting as the league draws to a close,” he said.
