One of the country’s high street banks, Ecobank Malawi, on Thursday partnered Ethiopian Airlines in a move that will see customers purchasing air tickets using digital platforms of both firms.

Ecobank Managing Director, Charles Asiedu, said the partnership complements the bank’s efforts to offer services to customers at their convenience which also reduces the cost of going through travel agents.

“This is a super partnership because Ethiopian Airlines is a typical African company with networks across Africa. Ecobank has similar structures.

“They are emphasising on digital channels which we are also doing, so we have so much similarities that we think we can work together to bring good benefits to our respective customers,” Asiedu said.

Ethiopian Airlines Country Manager, Nessebho Hailu, said customers that will be using the digital platforms will enjoy a 20 percent discount on the ticket bought.

“This is the first partnership with the banks in Malawi so this is a step ahead because customers will be making cashless payment.

“Unlike in the past, when customers made bookings on our digital platforms, they were required to walk in our office to make the payment but now they will be paying through the bank’s platform,” Hailu said.
