Ecobank ladies encourage girls
Following Women’s International Day which was celebrated last week, women working at Ecobank Malawi commemorated the day with motivational talks and donation of various items to girls in different secondary schools of the country under a theme: ‘Step Up’.
Ecobank media brands and communications manager, Lumbani Misoya said the initiative was undertaken with contribution of US$15 (K11,000) each from women working at Ecobank Malawi.
“Ecobank gives us US$15 each every International Women’s Day and we decided to use the money to reach out to young girls out there who are lacking motivation and material support,” explained Misoya.
She said apart from the motivational talk, the Ecobank ladies will also provide four-year bursaries to five girls in selected government secondary schools who are struggling to pay for their schools fees.
At Zingwangwa Secondary school in Blantyre, seven ladies from Ecobank spoke about how they made it to their respective positions as one way of encouraging girls to do well in school and aim high.
Josephine Mchungula, legal officer at Ecobank Malawi, told the girl students to stay focused and know what they want to achieve.
“The sky is not the limit. You can become whatever you want if you stay focused and know what you want,” said Mchungula.
Other schools that benefited from the initiative include HHI, Bwaila, Stella Maris and Lilongwe Girls.
