The revival of women’s volleyball in the country takes a new turn this weekend with a two-day invitational competition taking centre stage at Bingu National Stadium.
Eight teams battle for glory as the competition gets underway today.
Engineer Wisdon Honde is bankrolling the event at K2 million.
Southern Region is being represented by Gemz, Blazers and Chanco whereas Central Region has Kamuzu Barracks, Eagles Snipers and Vixens.
Katoto Queens and Eagle Claws are Northern Region’s flag carriers.
The event’s Publicity Secretary, Shupikai Nyirenda, said the tournament signifies the revival of women’s volleyball which started in 2015.
“We started this initiative in 2015 when some senior female players met. We believe we are on the right track in reviving the game. We expect the teams to give out their best and show the strides we have made,” Nyirenda said.
