Ekwendeni Hammers have hired former Rumphi United coach Elias Chirambo ahead of the new season.

Chirambo has replaced Gilbert Chirwa, who joined Dedza Dynamos Salima Sugar on a two-year deal last week.

Hammers General Secretary Benjamin Thole confirmed the development.

“He has vast experience and we believe he will take the team to another level. We have a very good team and we expect to perform better than last season,’’ Thole said.

Thole said Chirambo has signed a one-year performance-based contract.

However, Nyoni was not readily available for his comment Thursday.

Lackson Nyoni has been maintained as assistant coach whereas Anold Mtonga has been appointed trainee coach.

Chawanangwa Manda and Lazarus Nyemera have been appointed goalkeepers’ coach and team manager, respectively.

Mtonga will also double as coach for the youth team whereas William Chavula is the assistant coach. Former Flames defender Harry Nyirenda has been appointed trainee coach.

Chirambo has received a big boost after getting three new players on loan from FCB Nyasa Bullets, namely Chikumbutso Salima, Felix Damakude and Mphatso Magaleta.

However, the team lost striker Gift Chunga and defender Emmanuel Kaunga to Silver Strikers.

Former coach Etison Kadenge Mwafulirwa is also at Silver as assistant coach to Pieter de Jongh.
