Ekwendeni Hammers upbeat on bouncing back

By Bernard Mhone:
TNM Super League debutants Ekwendeni Hammers Coach Etson Kadenge Mwafulirwa is hopeful his side will return to winning ways despite losing three consecutive games.
Mwafulirwa was left dejected when his charges suffered a late blow to lose to Super League defending champions Nyasa Big Bullets 1-0 at Karonga Stadium on Saturday.
“We are just going through a bad patch but each player is working hard. Give us a little time we will bounce back. Do not judge us basing on our recent performances in the past three games. Also do not underrate us,” he said.
The coach said his charges’ main target for this season is to remain in the country’s top flight league.
Ekwendeni started the season strongly when they collected 19 points to stay third before the season was grounded due to Covid break.
However, after the season returned, Ekwendeni have also lost to Mighty Wanderers 2-1 and 3-2.
On Saturday, Ekwendeni appeared to have had done enough to hold Bullets only for the People’s Team to snatch a late winner through fullback Gomezgani Chirwa.
Following the loss, Ekwendeni have slumped to fifth position, having collected 19 points from 12 games.
