Female pugilist Ellen Simwaka has been given another chance to vie for the vacant Commonwealth super-bantam weight championship against Carly Skelly.
The 10-round contest will be held at the Grand Central Hotel in Liverpool, United Kingdom on September 4.
Matchmaker Steve ‘Mawenzi’ Msiska confirmed the development saying the bout will be held under the rules of the British Boxing Board of Control.
“As such, Ellen is expected to travel from South Africa back to Malawi to finalise travel logistics before proceeding to the United Kingdom,” he said.
Simwaka said it was an opportunity to redeem herself following failure to capture the belt two years ago.
“I have been looking forward to this chance. I have been working hard to win this belt. As part of my preparations, I will take part in a non-title fight before returning home [Malawi] to finalise my preparations,” Simwaka, who is training under Junior Asoya said.
Simwaka’s first bid for Commonwealth bantamweight title ended in disappointment when she lost to Kristen Fraser for the vacant belt after referee stopped the contest on November 24, 2018.
The Malawian, 29, has in 15 fights recorded eight wins, two draws and five defeats whereas Skelly, 34, has three knockout wins and a defeat.
