Ending year on high
It will be up to revellers to say whether this weekend’s ‘End of Year Celebrations’ pitting South African artists and local acts will have been a success.
But Soldier Lucius Banda, whose Impakt Events has organised the show in partnership with others, says he is so sure about success that that he would stick his head on it: No one will go home laughing like an individual struggling to be impressed and happy!
“All is set for the show. As I am speaking [Thursday afternoon], I am at Chileka International Airport waiting for some of Lucky Dube’s band [members] to arrive. There are 14 of them [band members] and we want to split them,” Banda said.
In the background, musical instruments could be heard struggling to be heard.
Soldier added that local bands, including Alleluyah Band, were also set for the show.
The ‘End of Year Celebrations’ will feature a horde of artists, including Lucky Dube’s band straight from South Africa.
The South African entourage includes Thutukani Cele (Usizi), TK Dube (Lucky Dube’s son), Banda himself, Nepman, Sam Smack, Lambani Dube, Zembani Band, Sir Paul Banda, Paul Subili, Cos Chiwalo, DJ ISO, among others.
The celebrations will start at Chez Ntemba in Blantyre today evening, before spilling to Lilongwe, at M1 Centre Point on Saturday, and Squirrels Park in Mzuzu on Sunday.
“We have prepared very well for this and we are ready to give Malawians a year-ending show they deserve,” Banda said.
