Epac FC player suspended
Super League of Malawi (Sulom) has slapped Epac FC attacker, Kelvin Thotho, with a six-game ban for displaying an unsporting behaviour during a goal-less draw against Silver Strikers last week in Lilongwe.
The player confronted referee, Esther Zimba, snatched a yellow card from her to eventually earn a red card.
“Fifa Disciplinary Code suspends your player for further four matches in addition to the red card, making it a total of a six-match suspension,” reads part of the statement signed by Sulom Vice-General Secretary, Thokozani Chazema and addressed to Epac.
Epac’s General Secretary, Chiyamiko Lita, said the player was likely to face disciplinary action from the club.
“It is very unfortunate for the player, but good for football. We will also take action on him because his behaviour cost us the game,” Lita said.
Thotho reserved his comment on the punishment, saying he was waiting for communication on the incident.
Thotho, who scores important goals for the Lilongwe club, might miss the rest of the season as Epac have seven games to wind up the season.
Epac are on position 10 with 30 points from 23 games.
