Government has appointed Eric Ning’ang’a as Operations Manager of the yet-to-be opened Bingu National Stadium (BNS) in Lilongwe.
The stadium was constructed by Chinese Government and was officially handed over to government in November last year but is yet to be opened because some works have not been completed.
In an interview on Wednesday, Ministry of Sports and Culture, spokesperson, Christopher Mbukwa, confirmed Ning’ang’a’s appointment.
“Yes, I can confirm his appointment and his contract is effective August 8,2016,” he said.
However, Ning’ang’a was not available for his comment on Wednesday.
Recently, Parliament approved K841 million for the completion of some works at facility.
However, the ministry is yet to identify the contractor to complete the stadium.
Early this year, the ministry indicated that the facility might be ready for use by September but there are strong signs that the stadium will not be ready this year.
“The procurement of a contractor to work on the sewerline is at an advanced stage and will be concluded shortly. We are committed to ensure that all the procedures and plans are executed thoroughly and have the product that will last so we can’t just rush some activities in the name of opening the stadium quickly,” he explained.
The Bingu Stadium was constructed by Chinese Government through a loan to be repaid in 20 years.
