Erik Paliani to headline Urban Music People Fashion Night

Renowned singer, guitarist and producer, Erik Paliani, will headline this year’s Urban Music People (UMP) Fashion Night to be held at Game stores Underground car park in Blantyre.

Both the organisers and Paliani confirmed the development.

Paliani, described by legendary Wambali Mkandawire as one of the talented artists the country has ever produced, on Saturday performed at Harry’s Bar in Lilongwe with his jazz quartet.

The artist, who has since set up a studio in Mchinji and is planning to a jazz education project, said he was excited to be part and parcel of the UMP Fashion show.

“We want to do more for the country and I would love to expand what is there already and part of this is through performances. It was a great show at Harry’s Bar and, from there, we have another show at Grittah’s on September 29 then UMP Fashion Awards on October 15,” Paliani said.

Paliani also said performing at the UMP Fashion Awards will accord him an opportunity to expand his fan base.

“I am excited to perform because I am on a mission to expand my targeted audience. This event hopefully allows me to introduce my musical brand to a wider and more youthful audience,” he said.

He also assured of high quality performances.

“I try to give the best where I am capable of doing so. As a travelling musician, an artist faces different audiences, scenarios and settings all the time. For the past 15 years, I have performed for audiences that can’t even translate my language.

“But they somehow manage to translate my soul. I believe the same will be true at this event,” Paliani said.

He further underlined the importance of music and fashion.

“Historically, human, performances, shows, dances, carnivals, among others, have included outfits, costumes, make up. It is a given fact that music and fashion are related. I strongly endorse that simple ideology,” he said.

Nde’feyo Entertainment and Nzika Arts are the producers of UMP Awards and Festival.

The UMP Fashion Night has been packaged with fashion show, fashion booths, UMP awards nominations announcement and party, music performance and media awards.

The organisers have since released a list of fashion designers to showcase their designs at the event and these are: Kliff Culture, Vivietta, Christian Entwan, Armasi By Jessie and Terry Made Designs.

After the UMP Fashion Night comes the UMP Awards and Festival set for Bingu International Convention Centre in Lilongwe and Blantyre Sports Club on November 18 and 19, respectively.
