Renowned singer and guitarist Erik Paliani is part of the performers for Bia Afrika concerts.
Bia Afrika is a cultural exchange project, an inspiration by Root Afrika Music that is set to provide participants with an opportunity to explore other cultures, traditions, customs, beliefs, societies and languages through music.
Paliani, who is based in Mchinji District, has, with other players, been driving the Kayesa initiative that seeks to grow art through various circles such as raising the jazz genre. He confirmed being part of the project which will see him performing in Lusaka, Zambia, on December 3 2021.
“Perfect move, it is all about connections, networking and pushing music,” Paliani said.
The ‘Chitukutuku’ star recently performed at Tumaini Festival at Dzaleka Refugee Camp in Dowa where he called on artists to keep pushing their works and strive for quality.
Apart from Paliani, some of the performers during the December 3 concert include Chiedza and Othenell Mangoma from Zimbabwe, Thandeka Mfinyongo from South Africa and Mathew Tembo, Chanx, Shimo Jeremy and Mukanzubo Kalinda Institute from Zambia.
The musician, who prides in performing with big names in music such as the late Hugh Masekela from South Africa, is the only Malawian artist on the list.
Root Afrika Music says on its website that the main goal of Music in Africa Live is to support the African music industry by enabling musicians to earn opportunities from digital live performances.
The project is supported by the Germany Federal Foreign Office, Siemens Stiftung and Goethe-Institut.
