Talented guitarist and singer Ernest Ikwanga has been invited to the 2018 Sauti Za Busara Festival in Zanzibar, Tanzania.
Sauti Za Busara is one of the top festivals in Africa and it brings together performances of different artists.
Last year, little—known Lilongwe-based Madalitso Band performed at the festival where they put up an electric performance and were captured by the BBC.
The festival will start on February 8 and end on February 11.
“I am excited; this is not a small festival. It is a big platform and I am looking forward to representing Malawi. I actually applied and was successful,” he said.
The deadline for the 2018 lineup was closed on July 31.
The lead guitarist, who also stars with Mafilika and recently launched his latest album titled Chisekese, said he will be performing there with his band.
“I will not be performing with Mafilika but there is a band I have put together. It’s not that I am not part of Mafilika but this is just a band I put together. On the other things, we are still discussing but I will be part of the festival in 2018,” Ikwanga said.
Ikwanga has made strides in his music and apart from his solo projects, he has also worked with different artists including Mtebeti Wambali Mkandawire and US-based musician Masauko Chipembere.
Organised by Busara Promotions, a non-profit Non-governmental Organisation, Sauti za Busara takes place annually in February in Stone Town, Zanzibar.
Sauti za Busara is Swahili for sounds of wisdom and according to the organisers, the festival features a rich variety of African music from the region with artists participating over four days.
