Musician Ernest Ikwanga has left the country for Switzerland.
The musician, family members and friends held a farewell party at Madsoc Theatre in Lilongwe two weeks ago.
Ikwanga said on Tuesday that he was now in Switzerland with his family.
“The farewell event, which was just a small gathering, went well,” Ikwanga said. His wife is from Switzerland.
The singer and guitarist, who in February flew the country’s flag at the Sauti za Busara Festival alongside Mbanaye Band, could not be drawn to say whether he would be coming back anytime soon.
The musician, who released his new album Chiseketse , also had a performance at the same venue where he shared the stage with Lulu.
The show was aimed at giving people the best out of guitars.
He wrote on his Facebook page: “See you soon sweet home Malawi”.
Some musicians congratulated him on his move to Switzerland while others said they would miss his music.
“Switzerland is lucky to get another splendid musician,” Sunniva Hovde, said.
Sam Mjura Mkandawire, who starred with him for years and was part of Mafilika, said Wednesday Ikwanga will be missed.
Asked on the future of Mafilika, Mjura Mkandawire said the issue would be addressed once Ikwanga settles down in Switzerland.
Musician David Luhanga, better known as Street Rat—who used to perform with a musical group known as Body, Mind and Soul—also moved to Scotland following wife.
He performs as a solo musician in Scotland.
