Malawi National Football Team Coach Meck Mwase is keeping his fingers crossed over the availability of Flames goalkeeper Ernest Kakhobwe for the friendly against Taifa Stars slated for June 13 in Tanzania.
The current Flames number one is expected to undergo a Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) scan in Lilongwe this week to determine if he has recovered from ankle and knee injuries.
Fam Competitions and Communication Director Gomezgani Zakazaka said, depending on the scan’s results, Kakhobwe would report for camping, after failing to join his colleagues on Monday.
“He has gone to Lilongwe for MRI scan but, once back in Blantyre, he will have to report for camp to be assessed by national team doctors,” Zakazaka said.
Kakhobwe has not featured for Bullets for the past two months as Bullets Head Coach Kalisto Pasuwa is using Richard Chimbamba.
Surprisingly, all the three goalkeepers, including William Thole and Brighton Munthali, are struggling for game-time at their respective clubs.
Munthali of Silver is also fighting to break into the starting lineup as the Central Bankers Coach Dan Kabwe has opted for Charles Thom.
Flames third choice goalkeeper William Thole of Mighty Wanderers has not been manning the post for his club as Richard Chipuwa has regained his place.
Thole left the country mid- May for South Africa where he is undergoing trials at Free State Stars.
Meanwhile, Zakazaka has said Mwase would soon provide an update on the coaches.
