Ernest Mtawali gets his car

Malawi national football team coach, Ernest Mtawali, finally received his official car this week, months after his appointment on August 1, 2015.

Elsewhere, an official car for a national sports coach is no big news, but such is the reality in Africa most sports associations struggle to provide basics to their coaches.

Therefore, it came as a relief when Football Association of Malawi (Fam) lived up to its promise by handing over the car to Mtawali through the association’s general secretary, Suzgo Nyirenda. Fam shared the handover ceremony pictures to the media.

The car, a Nissan X-Trail, should motivate the Flames coach going into next month’s grueling Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers for the 2017 national finals.

Malawi will travel to Guinea on the weekend of March 25 before hosting the West Africa during the same week. Malawi is in Group L also comprising Swaziland and Zimbabwe.

Elsewhere, after much uncertainty, Zimbabwe Football Association on Tuesday also tied national football team coach Callisto Pasuwa to a permanent contract, while also giving him an official car—a 2016 Toyota D4D new shape 3 litre V8 double cabin.
