Evergreen Malawian striker, Esau Kanyenda opened his delayed scoring account in South Africa Absa Premier Soccer League (PSL) on Saturday afternoon.
Restored to the starting line-up, Kanyenda made his presence felt at Peter Mokaba Stadium with the first-minute opener that put his relegation-endangered Polokwane City in motion to a 2-1 win over Jomo Cosmos.
Sipho Jembula added the second for City to condemn further Kanyenda’s former employers, Cosmos, into the relegation zone.
Brice Aka netted the consolation for Cosmos who had another Malawian, Micium Mhone coming off the bench in the second half.
In other games involving Malawians, Flames captain Limbikani Mzava was a surprise absentee for Mpumalanga Black Aces on Saturday as they beat Chippa United 1-0 in Nelspruit on Saturday night.
Aces, with Patrick Mabedi on the technical bench as an assistant coach, netted through seasoned Zambian forward Collins Mbesuma, who made it his 11th goal of the season.
The victory lifted Aces above Bidvest Wits to second place on the Absa table, three points behind Mamelodi Sundowns after 16 games. Chippa are sixth in the standings
