Esau Kanyenda stays put at Polokwane City

Veteran striker Esau Kanyenda is staying put at Polokwane City after the struggling South African club’s hierarchy promised him a job in future.

The Flames hit-man was linked with a move next month to an unnamed Mozambican club, but he confirmed recently that he would be happy to end his career at Polokwane.

“I had a discussion with the chairperson of the club and he told me that they will not let me go anywhere because they are also planning something for me after quitting playing football. If all goes well, I might have a job at the club,” Kanyenda said.

The former Jomo Cosmos forward’s current deal expires in June next year.

However, Kanyenda could not disclose if discussions over a new deal have commenced. Kanyenda has struggled for game-time in South Africa.

He was featured as a substitute for Polokwane in a 1-0 loss to Golden Arrows in a league game over the weekend.

Polokwane are 11th on the log table with 12 points from 17 games. At the peak of his career, Kanyenda also played for several Russia clubs, including, Locomotive Moscow FC, Kamaz FC and FC Rostov
