Ethno Malawi kicks off

Ethno Malawi Music Camp opened on a good note Monday at Chingalire Cultural Centre in Lilongwe with participants showcasing some performances from their countries.
Some countries have joined Malawi, the host, at this year’s camp include Tanzania and Uganda who are participating for the first time and Mozambique.
Veteran musician Ben Mankhamba who is Village Headman Chingalire welcomed the participants Monday saying Ethno Malawi Music Camp has demonstrated the importance of promoting and preserving culture through the playing of traditional instruments.
“We are excited to host Ethno Malawi Music Camp for the second time having hosted it in 2019. We are thankful to Music Crossroads Malawi for choosing Chingalire and we are sure by the end of the camp a lot will be shared and people here are ready to learn,” the traditional leader said.
Music Crossroads Malawi Director Mathews Mfune said the climax of the camp will be a show on Saturday featuring guests artists Wikise and Blaze.
Mfune said during the camp participants will undergo training and that they will also hold performances in the village.
“The camp didn’t take place last year due to Covid but we are happy to have this annual event this year and we are excited that we have participants from other countries as well,” Mfune said.
