In its quest to expose Malawi’s talent and its culture, Ethno Malawi continues to connect with the world as it has sent two artists to Ethno Sweden and Ethno Croatia.

The two artists are Tendai Chazima and Chisomo Makunje, better known as Makhu, who stars with renowned musician Faith Mussa.

Chazima said Tuesday they were happy to represent Malawi as Ethno Malawi participants at Ethno Sweden and Ethno Croatia.

“So far so good, we have learnt a lot from fellow participants and we have also shared more about Malawi, in terms of music, traditional dances, food and more,” he said.

Ethno Malawi Music Camp, which is aimed at promoting and preserving culture through, among others, playing of traditional instruments which are slowly fading, this year took place at Kayesa Creative in Mchinji District attracting talents from Malawi, Uganda, Mozambique and the Democratic Republic of Congo.

After the meeting at Kayesa Creative, the participants performed at Pakhonde Ethno Music Festival which was held at Chingalire Cultural Centre in Lilongwe.

Music Crossroads Malawi Director Mathews Mfune said Tuesday that they were excited that Ethno Malawi has this year sent two participants to Ethno Sweden and Ethno Croatia.

“This is part of the global Ethno programme that is happening around the world; so, we have an opportunity of sending our members to go and participate in the other ethnos,” Mfune said.

Makunje and Chazima started off with Ethno Sweden, where they stayed for close to 10 days, before proceeding to Ethno Croatia, where they are also expected to stay for 10 days before returning home.

In another development, Faith, starring as one-man band, Tuesday performed in Spain at the 77th Jeuneusses Musicales International Global.

This is an annual international event that brings together the world of youth and music to explore the future, build bridges and strengthen collaboration.

Faith is part of this initiative having, in 2017, won the Fair Play music against corruption competition.

Artists have been on the move recently flying the country’s flag and, apart from Faith, the other artists are Phyzix, who is in the United Kingdom and performed at an Independence celebration show, Madalitso Band, the duo of Yobu Maligwa and Yosefe Kalekeni, is on a European tour whereas Skeffa Chimoto starred in Zambia and came back on Sunday.
