Ex-Fam general secretary named Wanderers Chief Executive Officer

Former Football Association of Malawi (Fam) general secretary Roosevelt Mpinganjira returns to football administration after being named Wanderers 2021 Limited Chief Executive Officer (CEO).
Mpinganjira, who headed the Fam secretariat between May 2004 and July 2005, is the club’s first CEO on its journey towards commercialisation.
Wanderers Company Secretary Chancy Gondwe said Mpinganjira was expected to lead the process of making Wanderers self-sustainable.
“Mpinganjira brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to make the club a force to reckon with in the region,” Gondwe said.
Mpinganjira said he has accepted the offer.
“I can confirm that I have been offered the position. My main duties will be managing and overseeing the operations of Mighty Mukuru Wanderers 2021 Limited.
“[I will be responsible for] supervision of the secretariat, ensuring sporting and commercial viability of the club and its facilities, and timely implementation of board resolutions and giving strategic direction,” he said.
Mpinganjira said he was yet to meet the board to map the way forward.
He said he is excited with the challenge of heading one of the country’s biggest clubs at such a crucial time.
“I cannot wait to hit the ground running. Wanderers is a big and historical club. As a brand, it has enormous potential which we should be tapping into.
“I look forward to working with everyone at the club to ensure that we claim our rightful place among the elite of Malawian football while we assert ourselves within the region and beyond,” he said.
Mpinganjira holds Fifa’s Futuro III Certificate for Football Management and Administration and has previously worked as Country Director for Wanachi Group Holdings Limited, providers of Zuku Television services in the country.
Prior to that, he worked in senior positions in various organisations like Malawi Telecommunications Limited (MTL), Malawi Broadcasting Corporation and mobile phone service provider TNM.
Mpinganjira is a Social Science degree holder from the University of Malawi and is currently studying for his Master of Business Administration.
