Exciting ties in Super League
By Mabvuto Kambuwe:
The TNM Super League enters week 12 with several mouthwatering ties across the country as battles for points reach the climax.
Headlining the action is the clash involving current leaders Kamuzu Barracks (KB) and defending champions Nyasa Big Bullets at Civo Stadium in Lilongwe.
Another top-of-the-table clash involves second-placed Be Forward Wanderers and third-placed TN Stars at Kamuzu Stadium in Blantyre. Results of the two matches have the potential to change the outlook of the log table.
KB and Bullets are in high spirits after collecting maximum points in their games last weekend.
Last season, Bullets enjoyed a double over KB after beating them 1-0 at the same venue before thrashing them 6-0 at Kamuzu Stadium.
So today’s match offer the soldiers a perfect opportunity to settle scores.
The soldiers have no injury concerns heading into the match whereas Bullets have captain John Lanjesi, Miracle Gabeya and Mac Fallen Mgwira on the injury list.
KB will pin their hopes on Manase Chiyesa, Marshal Maluwa and Sam Gunda whereas Bullets will rely on Peter Banda, Chiukepo Msowoya and Chimango Kaira.
Wanderers have won six consecutive games in the league, just conceding a single goal in a 6-1 thrashing of Masters Security FC on Monday.
The Nomads have only lost once (3-1) to Blue Eagles but won matches against KB 2-0 , Mlatho Mponela 2-0, Civil Sporting Club 1-0, Karonga United 1-0 before the victory over Masters.
Stars have claimed maximum points in three consecutive games including beating Masters 2-0 and Civil 1-0 away before a 1-0 victory over Blue Eagles at Kasungu Ground on Monday.
Wanderers and Stars are tied on 22 points but are separated by goal difference.
Nomads assistant Coach, Oscar Kaunda, said his charges were treading carefully ahead of the clash.
“This is a tricky fixture for us because Stars are playing well. Our plan is to get all the points so that we finish the first round on a good position,” Kaunda said.
At the helm of Stars is former Wanderers goalkeeper Philip Nyasulu, who took over from Meck Mwase. Nyasulu is looking to prove that the three consecutive wins were not a flash in the pan.
“We are underdogs on paper but we can surprise them. Our players are eager to play and get a positive result,” Nyasulu said.
Wanderers are keeping faith in Nigerian striker Babatunde Adepoju who has already netted 10 goals this season.
Francis Mkonda, Vincent Nyangulu, Isaac Kaliati and Alfred Manyozo Jnr are also match winners for the Nomads whereas Stars’ have China Chirwa, Stain Davie, Davie Mthini and Laurent Banda to bank on.
In other matches scheduled for today, Mzuni host Civil at Mzuzu Stadium whereas Silver Strikers face Dwangwa United at Silver Stadium.
