Exodus hits Mafco FC

Mafco FC face a huge task to claim silverware in the 2016 season as their eight key players are, next week, expected to leave for a peace keeping mission in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

Mafco, who are owned by the Malawi Defence Force, finished the TNM Super League last season on position two with 48 points, and failed to win any cup.

Now, players such as Kalisto Kalinda, Hassan Chapola, Patrick Masanjala, Maurice Chiumia, Emmanuel Chipeta, Martin Masoatheka, Alfred Nyondo, Jimmy Nzunga and Frank Mosiya will miss this year’s action as they will depart for the DRC.

The club’s vice-chairperson, Captain Peter Overton Ng’oma, confirmed on Monday that the players will not be available.

However, Ng’oma hoped that the remaining players would help the club to build on where it stopped last year.

Ng’oma said the team will talk to other Army teams, such as Airborne Rangers, over the acquisition of four players.

The talks will depend on the outcome of the forthcoming play-offs as Rangers will compete alongside Wizards and Dedza Young Soccer.

“The team regrouped last week on Tuesday, and it is true that we will miss some of our players who are leaving the country for peace keeping in DRC. Actually, we have had talks with Airborne on the possibility of bringing on board Stain Malata, Joseph Dossa and other two from them,”Ng’oma said.

The new season is expected to kick off on April 2 with a Charity Shield match between TNM Super League champions, Big Bullets and Carlsberg Cup holders, Be Forward Wanderers.
