Facebook raises K5 million for school project
Malawi Congress Party (MCP) Member of Parliament (MP) for Dedza East, Juliana Lunguzi, has raised K5 million for a school project through an appeal she made on the social media.
Lunguzi took to Facebook, asking people of goodwill to contribute towards construction of learning block at Chiputi Full Primary School in the constituency.
The legislator said she decided to raise the funds after noting the challenges the learners at the school were facing to access education.
“This school has very impressive enrolment. Yet, it has only one classroom block. This means the majority of the learners are taking their lessons under the trees. I believe the learning block we are constructing with funds I have raised through Facebook will offer part of the solution to the problems this school is facing,” Lunguzi said.
She assured the school management committee of her continued support to the school.
The school’s head teacher, Wadi Shabaan, disclosed that the school has an enrolment of over 1, 000 pupils.
Shabaan said out of these, only Standard One and Two pupils are learning in classrooms.
