With two games to go before winding up their 2017 TNM Super League campaign, Nyasa Big Bullets have admitted that the odds are against them in the fight for the league title.
Bullets are second on the log table with 61 points from 28 games and will rise to 67 points should they win their remaining games.
In contrast, league leaders Be Forward Wanderers, who have 62 points after playing 27 games, will have 71 points if they triumph in their remaining three games.
The Nomads also have the luxury of still lifting the title even if they lose one game and win two as they will have 68 points.
Bullets Head Coach, Rodgers Yasin, took it on the chin after his team’s 2-1 win over Mafco on Sunday at Chitowe Stadium in Dwangwa, Nkhotakota District, and admitted that the dynamics had indeed changed in the Nomads’ favour.
Yasin said, all factors being constant, the league title would go to Lali Lubani Road as the Nomads have a one game advantage besides leading the 16-team pack.
“We are no longer fighting for the league title. All we want to do is to ensure that we win the two remaining games. We messed things up in the course of the season when we lost or drew games that we could have easily won,” he said.
Yasin said his team only needs to concentrate on the job at hand and take advantage if Wanderers mess up a game or two.
Wanderers Team Manager, Steve Madeira, refused to be carried away by his team’s bright prospects of winning the championship for the first time in more than a decade.
Madeira said the Nomads are taking one game at a time and have nothing to do with whatever results their rivals are getting.
“We still refuse to be carried away. We are not there yet. We will only cross the bridge when we get there,” he pointed out.
Wanderers are playing unpredictable Mzuni at Civo Stadium in Lilongwe on Sunday after the two teams failed to play at Balaka Stadium some three weeks ago due to incidents of hooliganism.
