Faith celebrates best of sports with theme song

Faith Mussa continues to sail into different grounds and show the best of his musical talent with the latest seeing him stitching a theme song for the Malawi National Sports Awards to be held at Bingu International Convention Centre (BICC) in Lilongwe next month.
The ‘Mdidi’ star, who last year was on the move holding a number of performances in Europe representing Malawi and has also translated an international song into Chichewa, said Wednesday that he was happy to associate himself with sports.
The singer and guitarist, who will also be performing at the event alongside other acts, said the theme song titled ‘Mwanayo Mwanayo’, was all about celebrating fine sports men and women.
“As a musician I have fans, who love sports greatly and so in producing this theme song is just one way of being part of their celebration and also venturing into what they love,” Faith said.
He said he was happy that apart from the theme song, he would also be performing at the event to connect to a new audience.
“As I have indicated, this is a celebratory song for awards targeting all sports disciplines, it is a song that has a mixture of Chichewa and English and I have given it a more youthful feel just to connecting with the youth and again there are also a lot of guitars,” he said.
Malawi National Council of Sports Acting Executive Secretary, Henry Mereka, said they value arts hence working with a number of artists to be part of the awards.
Mereka said this was the third staging of the sports awards that covers all sports disciplines.
“Faith Mussa is the second artist to do a theme song for the sports awards. Patience Namadingo did his theme song last year,” Mereka said.
He said all preparations for the third edition of the Malawi National Sport Awards were at an advanced stage.
“Sports and arts go together and this is what we have artists performing on the day as well. It is an event that people look forward to now. The awards, among others, aim at developing proud sportsmanship, encourage creativity and innovation in sports, promote fair competition and recognise deserving athletes, individuals and organisations that are outstanding in their contributions to the development of sports in Malawi,” Mereka said.
Apart from Faith, the other acts performing at the awards on February 14 2020 include Kell Kay and Forus Dance Crew.
