Faith Mussa, Mbanaye ready for Watana Festival

By Sam Banda Jnr:

Faith Mussa and Mbanaye have said they are all set to fly the country’s flag higher at the Watana Festival in Mozambique this coming weekend.

The two acts, who are both based in Lilongwe, are the only artists from Malawi performing at the festival where they will share the stage with artists from Mozambique and other countries.

“I am ready and looking forward to giving out the best,” Faith said.

Faith will be starring at the festival barely a week after holding a show in Nottingham, United Kingdom.

The ‘Mdidi’ star has made strides in music as he is also set to perform in Copenhagen, Denmark next month having been selected in this year’s Fair Play Anti- Corruption Youth Voices.

Mbanaye which early this year also starred at this year’s Sauti za Busara Festival in Tanzania alongside Ernest Ikwanga, also said they are ready to shine as well as to network with other acts.

The two acts left yesterday for the festival.

Ujeni Records has spearheaded the tour of two acts to the festival.

The record company has been on the ground promoting artists in the country.

Some of the projects they have worked on with Malawian acts in the past include a live in the bus session.

Faith and Mbanaye are participating at Watana Festival following Ujeni Records’ signing a contract with the Swiss Arts Council, Pro Helvetica, in Johannesburg, South Africa.

The Swiss Arts Council, Pro Helvetica has provided Ujeni Records with a mobility grant to make it possible for the Malawian artists to travel abroad to promote Malawian music.

Ujeni Records founder and label manager, Karstein Grønnesby, said Wednesday they were excited to have Malawian artists perform at Watana Festival.

“We are on our way now and the artists are ready,” Grønnesby said.

Watana Festival is an annual festival on the Mozambique Island with multicultural and socio-cultural character, presenting arts from Northern Mozambique, but also Malawi, Nigeria, Zimbabwe, Ghana, eSwatini, Portugal and Spain.

The festival takes place from September 21-23.
