Fake tickets’ suspects denied bail
Four suspects arrested on suspicion that they forged Chifundo Charity Shield tickets have been denied bail.
Lilongwe Senior Resident Magistrate, Benjamin Chulu, reportedly ruled that Innocent Jafali, Enoch Mapundi, Peter Minofu and Weston Garnet, should remain on remand at Maula Prison after the State turned down their bail application.
The court details indicate that the case will continue on May 10, 2017 for a hearing.
The four were arrested for allegedly being found in possession of fake tickets during the game involving eventual winners, Nyasa Big Bullets and Kamuzu Barracks, at Civo Stadium in Lilongwe last month.
During plea, both suspects pleaded not guilty to the charges. The suspects are answering charges of forgery and altering documents.
Police have, so far, arrested five people in connection with the scam but the other one is still in Blantyre.
Last year, some fake tickets were spotted at the same venue. During the Wafawafa Bonanza held at Bingu National Stadium recently, two people were also arrested but they were released on bail.
