Fam boss appeals for peaceful Sulom polls

Football Association of Malawi (Fam) President Walter Nyamilandu has asked stakeholders and potential Super League of Malawi (Sulom) candidates to avoid mudslinging ahead of the body’s elections slated for February 25 in Mangochi.
Nyamilandu said they were promoting fair play to ensure that the sport wins.
“Any election is contentious, and it can be divisive if not well handled. Ultimately, we have the responsibility to preserve the integrity and reputation of the game of football through good and orderly conduct of the elections.
“We are promoting the values of fair play and mutual respect,” he said.
Nyamilandu made the statement after Sulom settled for an independent body to manage the association’s electoral process following pressure from some teams.
Mighty Mukuru Wanderers, Silver Strikers and Blue Eagles were in the forefront, accusing Sulom of compromising the electoral process after advising teams to submit nomination forms through the body’s secretariat.
However, Sulom issued a statement last week advising the teams that auditing firm Crowe Horwath Malawi had been appointed returning officers for the polls slated for February 25 in Mangochi.
A fortnight ago, Nyasa Big Bullets Vice President Fleetwood Haiya declared his intent to vie for the Sulom presidency, challenging the incumbent Tiya Somba Banda.
