Fam boss challenges supporters to change

NEED MINDSET CHANGE—Nyamilandu with the supporters

By Isaac Salima:

Football Association of Malawi (Fam) President, Walter Nyamilandu, has said that there is need for mindset change among football supporters if they are to contribute effectively in the development of sports in the country.

Nyamilandu has since promised to help supporters so that they can embrace modern ways of cheering.

He made the remarks Sunday after gracing MBC Stand Supporters Initiative annual general meeting and party at Malawi National Council of Sports in Blantyre.

“This initiative is brilliant because it can develop football in the country. Let me assure you that we will be available to support all your endeavours because you have demonstrated what you are capable of doing if supported. We have to change mindset of supporters so that we can create a cheering culture. Supporters are not there to beg money from officials but to support their team,” he said.

Nyamilandu has promised that in the next Malawi national football team’s game he will join the supporters at their MBC stand.

The supporters’ general secretary, Charles Mangani, said he was pleased that the group was achieving its main objective.

“Our aim is to tackle issues of hooliganisms and we are happy that apart from achieving that, we have also been reaching out other areas with charity programs,” Mangani said.

He further that they would like to reach out to supporters in all the country’s regions to join their initiative.

MBC Stand Supporters Initiative was formed in 2017.
