The stage is set for 2016 TNM Super League top scorer Richard Mbulu to return to local action after Football Association of Malawi (Fam) authorised Mafco to bring back their former player.

This means Mbulu will mark his return during Mafco’s match against Mighty Mukuru Wanderers at Kamuzu Stadium in Blantyre on Saturday.

Fam Club Licencing and Compliance Manager Casper Jangale said the former Baroka forward was cleared together with Robin Ngalande, who has joined Wanderers on a year-long deal from Ethiopian Premier League side Saint George.

“We cleared him mid last week. We did our part and it is now up to the club to start using him,” Jangale said.

Mbulu said he is excited to return to local football four years after signing for relegated South Africa DStv Premiership side Baroka in 2019.

“I am training hard to regain my scoring form. I am happy to see my friends again. There is a lot of competition here and winning a starting place requires hard work. I am available for selection and it is up to my coaches to decide when I can start playing,” Mbulu said.

Last week, Mafco General Secretary Mike Uzale hailed Mbulu’s return, saying it will bring competition among the players.

Mbulu, who scored the lone goal that helped Malawi National Football Team qualify for the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon, won the 2016 Super League golden boot award after scoring 19 goals.
