He said government, through Malawi National Council of Sports, released K21 million to help Fam buy return air tickets.

“We are grateful to the government, through Sports Council, for the support. Remember, the initial budget for the two games is at K45 million, and we wanted half the amount for the first leg match. We will now make payments for the return air tickets,” Nyirenda said.

Meanwhile, Flames coach Ernest Mtawali, speaking at the same press briefing, said he would continue selecting players based on game-time, discipline, game-plan and recent performance, among others.

“The door is not shut for any player. Any player who impresses at club level will be given chance to play for the Flames. However, as we do that we should also be mindful of the future. We need to build a team for future as well,” he said.

Mtawali also disclosed that he would contact Robert Ng’ambi for a roundtable discussion to address issues that led to the South Africa-based midfielders’ outburst.

“I am like a parent and I will contact him. He is one of the best players and we need him,” he said.
