Local Organising Committee (Loc) for the Cosafa Under-17 Championship has expressed satisfaction with progress of preparations for hosting of this year’s tournament.
Football Association of Malawi (Fam) Executive Member Jabbar Alide, who chairs the committee, made the remarks after touring facilities at Mpira Village in Chiwembe Township, Blantyre, on Saturday.
The developmental championship will be played at Kamuzu and Chiwembe stadiums in Blantyre from October 11 to 20.
Alide said the tour was meant to assess progress made in preparing for the showpiece which Malawi last hosted in 2001.
“The purpose of this meeting was look at the progress we have so far made in terms of preparations for the tournament. We also checked on the facilities here at Mpira Village and assessed the progress of outstanding works around the stadium. Additionally, we appraised each other in areas of security, hospitality, transport and other areas of need,” he said.
Alide declared that Fam and the nation at large were ready to host the event.
“We also discussed issues to do with training. There are also other activities that are supposed to be looked into in order to empower officials in the area of security. We are looking at all aspects of preparations across the broad. From what is there on the ground, I can confidently state that we are very ready to host the event.
“I urge all stakeholders to visit Mpira Village and appreciate the facilities we have for the tournament. There are beautiful and modern facilities for the regional competition. We have the hotels and pitches for all the teams. Everything is in place,” he said.
