Fam hunts for Chan funds

Football  Association of Malawi (Fam) General Secretary, Alfred Gunda, has said they are looking for funds to ensure Malawi National Football Team’s participation in the African Nations Championship (Chan).

Gunda said the association had exhausted its annual K33 million allocation, but they will embark on other income generating activities.

“We registered to participate in the tournament, therefore, there is no need for Malawians to worry about the participation. We are running up and down to raise the cash,” he said.

Gunda sounded optimistic that government would step in with extra-budgetary support.

“If all does not work, we will still find ways as it is our duty to find solutions to such problems,” he added.

Fam President, Walter Nyamilandu, was quoted in the local media, saying they will fast-track the recruitment of the Flames’ Coach in view of the Chan assignments.

Malawi last participated in Chan in 2011. Chan is a tournament that features home based players only.
