Fam in tight spot over budget

Football Association of Malawi (Fam) will this week hold a virtual meeting with heads of affiliates to seek approval for this year’s budget.
Top on the agenda is the Flames’ budget for the away match against South Sudan on Wednesday, March 24, and home game against Uganda on Monday, March 29, in 2022 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
Fam General Secretary Alfred Gunda said the association was in a tight spot following Presidential Taskforce on Covid limiting public gatherings to 50 people.
“We cannot meet physically because of Covid protocols which the Presidential Taskforce set following the second wave. As it is, we will hold a virtual meeting on budget consultations.
“We have circulated a document to concerned parties for their perusal and input. Our plan is to hold a virtual meeting by end of this week. Our affiliates must familiarise themselves with the document for constructive input and feedback,” he said.
The virtual meeting is expected to draw members from Fam secretariat, administration and finance and all heads of Fam affiliates like Super League of Malawi, regional committees, beach soccer, youth, women’s football and referees.
The development comes after Flames Head Coach Meck Mwase proposed for an early camp in readiness for back-to-back Afcon qualifiers.
