Football Association of Malawi (Fam) executive committee is expected to meet on Saturday with the issue of hiring the next coach for the Malawi National Football Team being top of the agenda.

Fam General Secretary, Suzgo Nyirenda, confirmed yesterday when asked about the way forward on the Flames’ post, which became vacant on July 31 at the end of Ernest Mtawali’s one-year contract.

The association decided against renewing the contract for Mtawali and installed his former deputy, Nsanzurwimo Ramadhan, installed as the caretaker ahead of the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations Group L dead-rubber qualifier against Swaziland on the first weekend of September at Kamuzu Stadium.

“The Technical and Youth Committee chairperson will make a presentation which will be deliberated before a resolution is passed. So, let us wait until August 6,” Nyirenda said.

The Flames, who are out of contention for the Afcon finals, have not won in the group and lie bottom with two points from five games.

There is debate on whether Fam should either hire a local coach or an expatriate.
